PILA Sales Down?

From an anonymous person's gmail status (though I think it's safe to say probably a PILA rep):
Come to PILA. In this economy, The Summer Grant you fund may be your own. Sales are down-We need you!
Speculate away on the reason behind any drop: economy, anger over the lack of transparency in the awarding of grants, lack of consideration for our fellow law student?

Geeze. Enough about the lack of transparency. What do you want them to do, hold public hearings on all of the applicants?

Yes? The students are giving 'em all the money so shouldn't the students know how they're given out?

No, we want them to disclose all the numbers about how many people applied last year and how many people got grants.

Well, since it's already been released how many people got grants (ie. the list of people who got grants), what exactly will the acceptance rate tell you?

how many people didn't get grants?

So, basically, you think people should have a better idea of the extent to which they can rely on these grants. Don't think it will change much, if anything, but it should be availible information.

As for the substantive aspect of the selection process, I don't see how or why changes would be made.

I still don't understand why it matters how many people DIDNT get grants from a student organization. More people applied last year than they expected. Since over 125 applications were printed, you can pretty much guess. Why are people still whining because they didnt get a whopping $3500?

PSA: $3500 is more than $0. some people did the same work w/o being getting any compensation. IN THIS ECONOMY, $3500 does make a difference.

it would make sense, when it comes to summer planning, for people to know what % of PILA applicants actually get grants. personally, if i only had a 10% chance of getting a PILA grant, i'd be actively engaged in finding other summer plans as a backup presuming that PILA wouldn't work out.

hth.

What are y'all talking about? If the PILA reps want to just give themselves and their friends all the grants but don't want anyone to know about it, I think that's perfecty fine. Those PILA people put in a lot of work for the organization, what with the beer pong tournament and the riots...err... auction. To the PILA reps go the spoils!
