Wait, There's A Gunner Scale?

dood,
this kid in my church and state class cited a case that we haven't' covered yet during an open discussion today. please rate the level of gunnerishness of this move on a scale of 1-10.

We'd say that's a mere 6. For reference, a 10 would involve looking up the professor's decades-old law review article in some secondary journal, and being all "But professor, didn't you argue in 51 Harv. J. Int. Hum. Rts 56 at 31 that religion has substantial interests that need to be protected?" and then following up the exchange with a blue-book formatted email to the entire class.

If someone pulled off the move described in your post, instead of getting annoyed, I would pull out my checkbook and write them a check for $500. Sure, it would bounce, but I think the gesture would still convey the sentiment that such a move takes diligence and balls.

anonymous, such a move takes a severe lack of a social life and no real respect for yourself as a human being capable of maintaining interests beyond the law. even a professor would be disturbed.

kind of like that time last year when jody kraus ridiculed the guy who asked whether he should bluebook format his case citations in an exam answer...

The best part is that the case mentioned by the student wasn't just a case we hadn't gotten to yet, but was merely a case mentioned in one of the cases we hadn't read yet (I didn't realize this until today because this was the day we actually discussed it).

My thought was that no one could seriously call out a professor on an old law review article and incorporate the Bluebooked citation into the comment. I would assume that anyone who did so would just be making an elaborate joke. I did not mean to condone douchey gunning.

11:15 is right -- this is a case we NEVER read, he (GunMan) looked it up himself

or he (gasp) already knew about it. This rates about a "2" on this "Gunner scale"

"already knew about it" you kidding.
