CALLBACKS STICKY

You know how it works - post the firm, location, and status (callback offered / denied). We'll keep this thread at the top, and update it continuously. Thanks, and good luck. (EDIT: We make no guarantees about the accuracy of these reports, as we rely heavily on anonymous, unverifiable reporting. And also remember, just because a firm has *started* offering call backs doesn't mean that they have finished . . .)

If you get a callback, you'll be leaving CHO on one of these. Wooo.

Wait, people have already gotten callbacks? Is this normal? Did the interviewer just tell them on the spot??

Anonymous said...

Yeah, I don't buy it. Especially b/c Hunton is having such a small class, they aren't going to be making call-backs on the same day as interviews.

Anonymous said...

Sullivan & Cromwell is letting people know via email this evening, with a dinner on The Lawn for those called back.

I appreciate the timeliness, personally.

Anonymous said...

Yes, S&C did this last year too. Wonder if there will still be bonzai trees . . .

Anonymous said...

did on grounds interviewing start?

Anonymous said...

No calback news, but I gotta give props to Goodwin Procter for handing out firm-branded softballs. Great way to show us you know UVA.

Anonymous said...

goodwin did the same for yls.

Anonymous said...

Hunton called me at 5:45 PM on the night of the interview to extend the callback on one of the interviewer's drives back to Richmond, and I just set up the date today for two weeks from now after a phone call from the legal recruiter. It's legitimate.

Dickstein Shapiro also did the same thing - night of the interview on Mr. Lynch's drive back to DC. They're sending out a letter / e-mail in the days to come to make it formal and set up the logistics and scheduling.

Anonymous said...

(continued)
Steptoe told me that I'd know within a week, and Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher also told me that their process would take longer because they have a more bureaucratic, national firmwide hiring committee that decides callbacks.

Anonymous said...

12:22 is odd, last year GDC was within 24 hours or so.

also, have they (Gibson) extended offers to their current summers yet?

GDC seemed great, I almost took my offer with them, hope it works out for some of you . . .

Anonymous said...

gdc is weird. they invited me to a dinner after oci (which was only for select interviewees), but i couldn't go b/c it conflicted w/ s&c's (i didn't tell them that). didn't get a callback. so be sure to go to gdc's dinner if they're your first choice -- they get their panties in a bunch if you dare not go to their little dinner.

Anonymous said...

GDC has extended offers to their current summers

Anonymous said...

H&W has not made decisions on their non-Richmond offices yet, should be coming by end of next week.

So basicallly every callback has been reported by the same person? That might just indicate they are giving immediate callbacks to clearly strong candidates while waiting longer to give out more.

Anonymous said...

I heard through the grapevine that Cadwalader (sp?) was notifiying about callbacks. Don't know which office(s), though.

Anonymous said...

Skadden DC called me today. Callback in two weeks.

Anonymous said...

Just got an email from Dickstein that said "As they may have indicated, we will be extending our callback interviews in the next few weeks." ... So yeah, there's that.

Anonymous said...

Kelley Drye has extended callbacks. Thursday afternoon.

To clarify the last post, Kelley Drye DC.

Does anyone know if Skadden Wilmington has made calls yet?

Anonymous said...

I'm curious whether numbers are playing a big(ger?) role this year. Has everyone who's gotten a callback so far been a Law Review grade-on or is it more even across the board?

Anonymous said...

For the curious poster, I've had 5 callbacks (4 DC) so far and I was a grade-on, but I'd also add that I've done a lot of research for each firm before my interview.

Anonymous said...

Do firms coming to the diversity reception typically wait until after the reception to make all callbacks? For example, has anyone heard from Arnold & Porter or Hogan & Hartson yet?

Anonymous said...

As in past years, I would imagine that LR grade-ons are getting the first wave of call-backs (the people that employers had basically already decided on before the interview). A second wave of callbacks for everyone else will happen later. Numbers play a big role, but these firms still have slots to fill and they can't all go to LR. Granted there are exceptions, but I'm talking about most firms not the ones who only take LR.

10:12 -- I got email rejections from Crowell and S&C (the latter was neither surprising nor particularly unwelcome). No snail mail yet.

I much prefer email... I'd rather know sooner than wait it out a couple more days, especially if classmates are getting callbacks from those firms. It's not like the firm spending 43 cents on the rejection makes it any better.

have people @ median or below had any luck?

Anonymous said...

Median- 11 Interviews, 2 rejections, 4 firms who have made callbacks not to me.

Anonymous said...

true median, 6 callbacks

Anonymous said...

7:01- Any interest in even explaining that a little? Non-NY/DC markets? Diversity? Unique resume?

6 callbacks from median seems like there's more to the story.

Anonymous said...

this thread and its comments make me feel bad about myself :\

top quarter, 12 interviews (2 remaining), 1 rejection, 0 callbacks, 5 firms listed on here as having made callbacks already

Anonymous said...

~3.15, 12 interviews, 8 done already. Three rejections and four who haven't made any callbacks yet. Apparently some people are getting rejection emails from one of my firms but I haven't gotten one yet - haven't gotten a callback either, though.

I'm assuming they haven't emailed me their rejection because they feel I don't even deserve that, but who knows.

Anonymous said...

At median - 16 interviews (three more to go), one ding, no callbacks.

I agree with the person who said that reading this makes me feel bad about myself.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Latham & Watkins (DC)

Anonymous said...

Clifford Chance (NY), Weil Gotshal (NY), and Sidley Austin (NY) all extended callback offers by phone on Thursday 08/20.

Anonymous said...

I had 27 interviews, 1 rejection, 1 callback, and interviewed with 2 other firms listed here, though I haven't heard from them. I was feeling like "my personality must really suck" before I got my callback.

Definitely with the feeling bad about myself crowd...

Anonymous said...

A lot of firms have let me know that it takes at least a week to ten days for them to get their hiring committee assembled and make decisions about extending callbacks, so no news from firms people interviewed with may have more to do with those attorneys not being able to turn around decisions immediately than anything else. While interview week is still ongoing is a bit early to be panicking!

Anonymous said...

Proskauer (NYC) callback extended by phone Thurs, 8/20 at 9pm

Anonymous said...

Cooley (VA) and MoFo (VA) have extended callbacks.

Anonymous said...

It seems only the top 15% are getting callbacks. I just can't imagine that median at UVA with 20 or so interviews will get 0 callbacks. UVA can close its doors if only LR gets legit firm jobs.

Anonymous said...

3.2, 14 interviews. 1 callback so far, 1 ding. The rest of them are not on that list, so I'm hopeful. I think it's all about the markets. DC is super-competitive this year.

What's the thinking on firms holding candidates they're less certain about? Is this just wishful thinking, or do people think that some of the firms on this list are considering a second round of callbacks?

I've gotten 1 callback and 1 rejection, but many of the firms I interviewed with are on the list and have done both callbacks and rejections based on these comments.

Anonymous said...

Arnold and Porter (DC) rejection by email...on a Saturday...ouch.

Anonymous said...

In past years (and I see no reason firms would have changed this year), firms typically have three lists after interviews: early callback, hold callback, and rejection. Historically, firms were unable to fill their associate classes from the early callback lists, and so hold callbacks had a good chance of actually be called back. This year, I would bet firms have the same system, but I'm not sure they will be going as deeply into their hold callback lists (due to what would amount to greater yield protection than in past years).

When will those on "hold" hear something? Sept? Oct?

Anonymous said...

If past years are any indication, those in the hold pattern would hear something as early callbacks decline offers / cancel callbacks and firms calculate that their early callback list will be insufficient to fill their summer associate classes. So that would probably be September, maybe October, in my rough estimation.
