Sunny, with a severe chance of No Softball

The 3L Tournament was cancelled today because of hangovers from Foxfield the weather. In addition to caring about kids and the community, NGSL* is apparently also interested in preserving the youthful appearance of the law school's elderclassmen by helping them avoid the sun.
Unfortunately, no tournament rescheduling is guaranteed or thus far in the works. Looks like for most 3Ls, the days of softball glory are now officially behind them.

*Editors note: Just to clear up - NGSL is not responsible for the planning, scheduling, or cancellation of the 3L Softball Tournament. The tournament was actually the brainchild of the SBA and any questions/complaints should be directed in their direction. Even though the event involved section softball - with beer, umps, and the assistance of NGSL members - we apologize for assuming the North Grounds Softball League, as an organization, was involved in any official capacity. We thank the Head Commissioner for taking the time to personally call and help point out the errors in this post.

no post about the mens or corec championships?

You need a post to tell you that GUS was going to win? It was a fun time though.

fyi: the 3L tournament was organized by the sba graduation committee, not the ngsl.

Both organizations organized it. But NGSL canceled it.

Section C would have won this tournament. No doubt, no doubt in my mind.

Did anyone want to play in / watch this tournament in the first place? Who cares?

Anonymous said...

wait, didn't the ngsl provide the planning and umpires for the event?

get new material, softball is over

I don't understand why everyone picks on NGSL all the time. Their organization is really no different than the Lambda Alliance or any other school organization.

Srsly, NGSL is just like the Fed Society or BLSA. Why don't I hear you whiny losers complaining about those organizations?

Anonymous said...

Whining about BLSA's de facto reverse discrimination would be racist.

Except BLSA legitimately doesn't discriminate on the basis of race.. so..

12:30, but does BLSA reverse discriminate on the basis of race?

There are plenty of white people in BLSA. Anyone who wants to join can pay dues. Doesn't NGSL works the same way?

I think they are afraid of losing. It’s no secret that they are way past their prime and just not that good at softball anyway. This was the only way that they could avoid being embarrassed in the playoffs.

you were wearing under armour shorts, under armour socks, an under armour t-shirt, and an ivy league baseball hat - tell me which school if you want to hook up.

If ngsl wasn't responsible for cancelling the tournament, why did the email come from uvalawsoftball@gmail.com ?

Anonymous said...

Maybe because NGSL has a list of the captain's emails?

Anonymous said...

the email was sent by and NGSL exec board member from that account and said "[because of inclement weather] I am canceling the tournament."

so, whether that was the right decision or not it certainly was not foolish to conclude it was ngsl's decision

to 5:35, 6:00 -- Re: BLSA, Fed Society -- I don't know why people are whining (they are all just a club) but do you really not know the difference? The BIG difference these are OPEN orgs.

NGSL is not. It is a private club. It selects its members based on who is friends w/ who. Yes some orgs, e.g. law review, have exclusive memberships. But they are clear about what are (at least nominally) objective criteria. NGSL has none and its membership makes it apparent that neither softball skill or community service is really required.

Softball enthusiasm is required. And that seems like a relevant attribute for people who will be umping lots of games, no?

The field looks muddy as crap. Click to enlarge the picture. The weather forecast also called for rain the rest of the day so thank god it was canceled. What a stupid post to make on this blog...

"The weather forecast also called for rain the rest of the day so thank god it was canceled."

Thank god it was cancelled when it actually turned out to be beautiful? I don't follow.

i blame this entire situation on wgwag

Rule 12(f) @ 3:52

If it's been raining with crappy weather the day before, the field is muddy as crap (see pics), it looks like crappy weather all day that day, and the forecast is calling for rain, yes, you cancel it. you don't wait for it to start pouring and then send a last minute email canceling. and so what if it was beautiful out? look at your pics, the field is crap. no one wants to play in a mud bowl besides maybe you and your cronies

"no one wants to play in a mud bowl besides maybe you and your cronies"

I readily confess I'll play softball anytime and anywhere. I don't have any cronies, unfortunately.

3:28,

"Softball enthusiasm is required. And that seems like a relevant attribute for people who will be umping lots of games, no?"

So why does NGSL have no interest in allowing on many people who are enthusiastic about playing? What is wrong with ALLOWING enthusiastic people to JOIN?

lots of enthusiastic people aren't cool

8:41 - If you are enthusiastic about playing, then play. This is what I don't understand about NGSL, why do you want to be on it so badly? If it's such a stupid private club, then who cares? Let them be stupid and private and you go play softball on the league that they provide.
