2010 OGI Callbacks Sticky

You guys know the drill: if you got a callback, post it in the comments. This site may be in transition, but we're not ignoring the basics. Post the firm, location, and status (callback received / rejected). Thanks.

At first I felt bad about being obsessive, but then I realized we all are, so back @ 9:13/31, is it Atlanta by any chance?

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

@9:13 -- larger or smaller than a loaf of bread?

Anonymous said...

12:29 -- DC is not a secondary market

Anonymous said...

@758 - no shit, but 913 is making everyone play the guessing game

Anonymous said...

wgwag

Anonymous said...

@9:13 I see your vagueness and raise you one level.

I have a callback from firm X (which no one else has posted about) in place Y.

Firm X:

*Has the letter E in their name
*Has or at one time had a litigation department
*Claims their firm environment is "collaborative"

Place Y:

*Is not Wyoming.

Enjoy!

Anonymous said...

12:07 - let me guess, not Arnold & Porter!

Anonymous said...

Just got a callback. It was from a law firm, basically a bunch of lawyers that work together to advise or represent their clients when they have legal questions. Should be interesting!

Anonymous said...

@12:16: Nope, not A&P!

Anonymous said...

Do callbacks actually come in more than one wave, or is that overly optimistic nonsense?

Anonymous said...

Overly optimistic. There are some situations where this happens but don't get your hopes up.

The primary exception is if other people have been receiving ding letters/emails and you didn't get one.

Anonymous said...

@11:56 I would think they would have to, since I, and others, haven't been rejected from firms that sent out callbacks a while ago (of course, they just might not ever send us anything again). Gotta keep the faith, I guess.

Anonymous said...

@ 11:56: One of my interviewers indicated that last year, many firms overestimated the level of desperation in the market and issued too few callbacks, only to find they were left with fewer candidates available that met their qualifications than desired because many of the people with callbacks accepted offers from other firms.

I suspect many of those same firms might be overly cautious this year and leave more people than needed in limbo. Because it's likely an overreaction to the events of last year, I wouldn't put much faith in receiving a callback from a firm that has already issued them.

Anonymous said...

I just got two CBs from 8/11-13 interviews. Non-DC. Don't give up, but don't put all your eggs in the DC/VA basket either. If you have even the remotest ties to any other region, swallow your pride and work them.

Anonymous said...

@6:39 - don't know if that is really true but thanks for posting something positive and encouraging.

Anonymous said...

anyone heard from fenwick & west?

Anonymous said...

Baker and McKenzie ding via email

Anonymous said...

Just canceled some callbacks that were scheduled early in the process. It will be interesting to see if UVA people get new callbacks from those firms, i.e., whether the firms are really operating on a strict quota system for schools.

Anonymous said...

Has anyone had a Latham (DC) callback? Or any Latham callback really? If so have they made any offers?

Anonymous said...

11:48 - DC firms?

Anonymous said...

@11:48: It will be interesting. Everyone be sure to post new callbacks, even if they're from firms already mentioned

Anonymous said...

1 NY firm and 3 DC firms, all V15-35

Anonymous said...

^ from 11:48

Anonymous said...

Latham DC has given many callbacks. No offers as far as I know.

Anonymous said...

Any Jones Day DC info?

Anonymous said...

Apparently there were already Jones Day DC callbacks

Anonymous said...

lol at douches talking about Vthis and that. i was an SA last associate at a "v15" but I don't call it that.

Anonymous said...

Except you just did call it a V15, and told everyone you worked there.

Anonymous said...

it's just a way for people to figure out which firms 11:48 might have been talking about, especially if they're waiting to hear back from some in that range

I think Covington calls might go out today or tomorrow.

Anonymous said...

10:46 -- Morris Nichols

Anonymous said...

Dorsey (Minneapolis) rejection via e-mail

Anonymous said...

10:49 - yes, Covington is calling references. But 1) not everyone who has references called gets a callback and 2) the process is very slow, so just because they're talking to references doesn't mean they've also synthesized the information, met as a committee, made decisions, or are prepared to place calls. It may be soon, but I don't think expecting it today or tomorrow is wise.

Anonymous said...

Your mom is wise

Anonymous said...

geez 12:09, serious much? who knows when covington callbacks are coming, but they have been calling references for a while. one of my references told me monday that he had already spoken with them.

Anonymous said...

@ 3:31: If the point of this thread is to help people stay apprised of their chances of getting callbacks from firms they've interviewed with, knowing a firm has given offers is relevant information, and thus useful here.

If the point of this thread is for the people with a zillion callbacks to brag about it and make the rest of us feel bad, bragging about offers likewise serves that purpose.

Either way, I don't see the point of a separate thread.

Anonymous said...

So far I've heard of offers being given from Sullivan & Cromwell (NY & DC)

Anonymous said...

besides the (probably only) one person counting their callbacks on here ("21 now!" or whatever), I don't see how just listing what firms you get callbacks from is bragging when it's the point of this thread...

Anonymous said...

@4:07, what office?

Anonymous said...

Callbacks have gone out from Stradling and Kilpatrick

Anonymous said...

28 now!

Anonymous said...

Arent Fox tells me that while "{Interviewer} enjoyed meeting with you to discuss a potential summer associate position with Arent Fox's Washington, DC office," they won't be calling me back.

Anonymous said...

Brackets, by the way, in the original.

Anonymous said...

@ 5:11: Thanks for the clarification, I didn't get the joke at first. (Not sarcasm).

Anonymous said...

In all fairness to Arent, I assume most of their interviews went something like:

"I'm very interested in {Firm}'s {City} office, especially because of your reputation for {Practice Area}. As you can see, I did well in {1L class superficially relevant to {Practice Area}}, so I am especially qualified to work at {Firm}."

That said... seriously, {Firm}? That's messed up.
