Fullfilling my vows

Night gathers, and now my billing begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no tailored suits and sign no briefs. I shall live and die at my desk. I am the pen in the flourescent lights. I am the cite-checker at the printers. I am the striver that bills against the odds, the research assignment that wins the case, the pitch that makes the deal, the shield that guards the realms of the billable-hour. I pledge my life and honor to the firm, for this night and all nights to come.
